Quote Mode and Quote Requests

Quote Mode lets customers request a price instead of, or alongside, purchasing a product. It is disabled by default and was formerly called Catalog Mode.

The three behaviors and mixed-cart workflow below are available in Vero2. Vero uses the existing quote-only Catalog Mode workflow; see the Vero compatibility note.

Setup

  1. Create a Shopify page and select the quote-request theme template for it.
  2. Open Online Store → Themes → Customize → Theme settings → Quote Mode.
  3. Enable Quote Mode and choose a behavior below.
  4. Choose which products are eligible: selected product tags or collections, the entire catalog, or the entire catalog except Team Stores. For a targeted selection, enter the product tags and collection handles.
  5. Select your quote request page, choose whether quote prices are suggested or hidden, and set the button wording.

Quote-only (default)

Eligible products show Add to quote instead of Add to cart. Quote prices follow your suggested or hidden price setting.

Optional quote

Eligible products show both Add to cart and a secondary Add to quote button. Customers can purchase normally or request a quote using the same selected variant, quantity, artwork, and custom options. Normal product pricing stays visible.

A purchase and a quote for the same variant appear separately in the cart. Optional quoting is also available from sticky purchase controls, quick add, and bulk ordering.

Quantity-triggered quote

Set a whole-number Quote quantity threshold. A value of zero turns off the global threshold.

The threshold counts the total quantity of a product in the cart across its variants and customizations. Separate add-on charges do not count toward it. At or above the threshold, all units of that product require a quote. Reducing the quantity below the threshold restores normal purchasing.

For example, with a threshold of 50, adding 20 small and 30 large units of the same product makes all 50 units quote items. Reducing the large quantity to 29 restores normal purchasing for all 49 units.

Product behavior override

Use a product metafield to choose a different quote behavior for an individual product. This includes making one product optional quote while other eligible products remain quote-only.

  1. Open Settings → Custom data → Products → Add definition.
  2. Name the definition Quote behavior.
  3. Set the namespace and key to custom.quote_behavior.
  4. Choose Single line text, with one value.
  5. Limit the field to these preset choices: quote_only, optional, and threshold.
  6. Save the definition. Open a product, find Quote behavior in its Metafields area, and select a value.
Product valueResult
BlankUse the behavior selected in Theme settings.
quote_onlyRequire a quote instead of normal purchasing.
optionalOffer both Add to cart and Add to quote.
thresholdAllow normal purchasing below the quantity threshold and require a quote at or above it.

Example: keep the global behavior at Quote-only and set one eligible product's Quote behavior to optional. That product offers both buttons while the others remain quote-only.

Quote Mode must be enabled, and the product must be included in your selected Quote Mode scope. A product override does not make an excluded product eligible. Leave the field blank to return to the global behavior.

Product threshold override

For a product using threshold, you can also choose its own quantity limit:

  1. Open Settings → Custom data → Products → Add definition.
  2. Name the definition Quote quantity threshold.
  3. Set the namespace and key to custom.quote_quantity_threshold.
  4. Choose Integer and set the minimum value to 1.
  5. Save the definition, open the product, and enter a positive whole number in Quote quantity threshold.

This value replaces the global quantity threshold for that product. Leave it blank to use the global threshold. A positive product threshold works even when the global threshold is zero, provided the product uses quantity-triggered quoting and is included in your selected scope.

For example, set Quote behavior to threshold and Quote quantity threshold to 50 to allow purchases below 50 units and require a quote at 50 or more. Setting a quantity threshold does not change an optional-quote product into a quantity-triggered product.

Mixed carts and totals

Customers can have purchase items and quote items in the same cart. The cart shows a separate quote estimate and purchase subtotal. Add-on charges stay with the products or bulk orders they belong to.

When quote items are present, the main action is Continue to quote submission. Express checkout shortcuts are unavailable until those quotes have been handled.

The quote request contains only quote items and their related charges. After a successful submission, those quantities are removed from the cart. Normal purchase items remain, and the customer continues to checkout when they can be purchased. Team Store access or required cart terms may require another cart review first. An empty cart shows the quote success message.

Items deliberately added through Add to quote remain quote items even if their quantity drops below a threshold. Shopify may recalculate discounts after quote items are removed; checkout shows the final purchase total.

Submission and cleanup

By default, requests are sent by email through Shopify's contact form. Complete any CAPTCHA and wait for the confirmation message. A form error does not remove cart items.

If a quote is sent but its items cannot be removed from the cart, the page shows Quote sent; cart cleanup needs retry. Choose Retry cart cleanup to finish without sending the request again. If the problem continues, return to the cart to review the remaining items and contact 424 Solutions.

Keep the submission open until it finishes, and avoid changing the same quote items in another tab during submission. Browser scripting and storage need to be enabled for automatic cart cleanup and checkout continuation.

Optional quote integration

Email submission does not require a separate quote-processing service. If your store uses an integration to create quotes or draft orders automatically, ask its provider for the Quote processor endpoint and confirm the integration is compatible before entering it in the quote-page settings.

Test that requests arrive in the intended system and that customers receive the correct confirmation. If an integration is unavailable, a request may arrive through Shopify contact email instead; check both destinations before processing a request twice.

Updating an existing quote page

Existing quote-page links, product selections, and button wording can be kept when updating Vero2. Review your success message: successful submissions remove the quoted quantities, while normal purchase items remain in the cart. Older wording that says the entire cart is cleared should be changed.

Customers' existing artwork uploads and customization details are included with their quote; they do not need to upload their files again.

Quote Mode controls purchasing through the storefront theme. If your store needs a mandatory purchasing restriction at checkout, contact 424 Solutions about the appropriate access or checkout app.

Check before publishing

On an unpublished theme:

  • Confirm eligible products show the intended buttons, and excluded products still purchase normally.
  • Try a product set to optional, including both a normal purchase and a quote.
  • For a quantity threshold, test one unit below it, exactly at it, and above it. Include different variants of the same product.
  • Submit a mixed cart with artwork and add-on charges. Confirm the request arrives, quoted items are removed, and purchase items remain.
  • Check quick add, sticky controls, and bulk ordering if your store uses them.
  • Check Team Store access, cart terms, and the remaining checkout where applicable.

Vero compatibility note

Vero uses Theme settings → Catalog Mode and the existing quote-only workflow. Use its scope, pricing, and quote-page settings. Product behavior overrides, optional quoting, quantity-triggered quoting, and the mixed-cart workflow described above require Vero2.
