01 / The challenge
What needed to work better.
Wild Acres Hat Company had grown from a small, home-based operation into a brand serving individuals, businesses, families, and events, but needed an online experience capable of growing with it. Custom headwear was at the center of the business, with customers needing to choose between different hat styles, colors, patch materials, designs, and personalization options. At the same time, Wild Acres needed room to sell other custom engraved products, handle larger quote-based orders, promote its mobile Hat Bar, and manage an evolving product catalog without making the storefront difficult to navigate. Just as important, the finished site needed to be approachable behind the scenes. Kristin wanted the ability to manage products, availability, collections, content, and new options herself as the business continued to expand.
02 / The build
How 424 approached it.
We built Wild Acres Hat Company on the Vero Theme, creating a flexible Shopify storefront centered around custom products while leaving plenty of room for the business to grow. For custom hats, we implemented the Hat Lab to turn a product with dozens of possible combinations into a guided shopping experience. Customers can move from choosing a hat style and color into selecting their patch material, design, shape, placement, and other customization options without being presented with everything at once. We paired that experience with visual product variants and swatches so customers can see the colors and materials they are selecting instead of relying on text alone. Behind the scenes, these options use Shopify's native product data and structured metaobjects wherever possible, making it easier for Wild Acres to add, remove, and reorganize materials as its offering changes. The rest of the storefront was designed around the different ways Wild Acres does business. Dedicated paths promote individual custom orders, bulk quote requests, ready-to-shop products, and the mobile Hat Bar, while additional collections give the business room to expand beyond headwear into engraved goods. We also built the site with long-term ownership in mind. Product templates, customizable theme settings, collection tools, inventory controls, SEO foundations, and reusable content systems allow Kristin to manage much of the day-to-day storefront without depending on custom development for every change.
