◆ Project profile

OBX Custom Works

OBX Custom Works needed a website that could present a broad catalog of promotional products, apparel, custom printing, and engraving without forcing every visitor through a traditional ecommerce checkout. Built on Shopify and the Vero Theme, the finished site combines a polished catalog and quote-request experience with fully transactional team stores, giving OBX the workflow it needs today and a clear path to expand into full ecommerce later.

01 / The challenge

What needed to work better.

OBX Custom Works serves customers whose orders often require conversation, artwork, personalization, and pricing based on the details of the project. A conventional ecommerce storefront would have pushed many of those products into a checkout flow before OBX had enough information to accurately prepare the order. At the same time, the site could not simply be a static brochure or basic product catalog. Customers still needed to browse real products, choose variants, enter the same personalization details they would provide when purchasing, and send everything to OBX in a useful format. The business also needed team stores with normal online purchasing. That introduced a second experience within the same Shopify store: most of the public catalog should generate quote requests, while approved team stores needed secure access and a complete cart and checkout flow. The foundation also had to support a future move into broader ecommerce without requiring the site to be rebuilt.

02 / The build

How 424 approached it.

We built OBX Custom Works on Shopify using the Vero Theme, then expanded Vero to support a hybrid catalog, quoting, and ecommerce model. The central addition was Catalog Mode. Individual products can be switched from a traditional Add to Cart workflow to Add to Quote while keeping the same product variants, quantities, and personalization options used for custom goods. Customers can assemble a quote request across multiple products, review their selections, add project details, and submit everything through a polished quote workflow instead of entering checkout. Each submission gives OBX a clear, organized request and also creates a draft order inside Shopify. That keeps the inquiry connected to the products and configuration the customer selected, reduces manual re-entry, and gives OBX a practical starting point for pricing, editing, and converting the request into an order. For team stores, we replaced Vero's earlier customer-account and tag-based access method with a global password authentication system. This gives OBX a simpler way to protect individual team stores while allowing authorized customers to shop and purchase normally. The result is a single Shopify site that can support quote-driven public browsing and secure ecommerce at the same time. We also reworked the hat catalog around the way OBX wanted to present its offering. Instead of treating every hat style as the primary destination, dedicated brand pages introduce each manufacturer and organize its available styles beneath a stronger brand-level experience. Custom layouts and reusable content give those pages more context than a standard collection while keeping the catalog easy to expand. Because all of this was built within Shopify and Vero, OBX can gradually enable direct purchasing on more products as the business is ready. The site works as a catalog-first sales tool now without becoming a dead end later.
