Meraki Headwear
Meraki Headwear was more than an early Shopify build for us. It became one of the projects that helped shape the direction of the Vero Theme itself. By combining Kevin's strong creative vision with custom Shopify development, we created a storefront built around the way custom headwear is actually purchased. Features first explored and refined for Meraki, including the Hat Lab, enhanced product options, visual swatches, and flexible customization tools, went on to influence some of the earliest defining features of Vero.

01 / The challenge
What needed to work better.
Meraki Headwear came to us with something most clients don't have at the beginning of a project: a clear vision. Founder Kevin Parker had already developed a design concept for how he wanted the brand and shopping experience to feel, but turning that concept into a working Shopify store introduced a different set of challenges. Meraki's mix of ready-to-ship hats and customizable headwear required more than a traditional product page. Customers needed an intuitive way to move through hat styles, colors, sizing, artwork, patch options, and personalization without the experience becoming overwhelming. The goal was to preserve the character of Kevin's original concept while building a storefront that was practical to manage, easy for customers to understand, and flexible enough to grow alongside the brand.
02 / The build
How 424 approached it.
We worked closely with Kevin to translate his original design direction into a fully functional Shopify storefront, using an early version of what would eventually become the Vero Theme, then known internally as Maker. Because Meraki was being developed while the theme itself was still in progress, the project became an opportunity for genuine collaboration. With Kevin's permission, several features created to solve Meraki's specific needs were developed in a way that could later become reusable parts of the theme. The most significant of these was the Hat Lab: a guided customization experience that walks customers through selecting a hat style, available variants, artwork, and customization options one step at a time. We also developed expanded product option controls, visual swatches, conditional fields, reusable design libraries powered by Shopify metaobjects, and support for more complex variant combinations. Those systems made the storefront easier for customers to navigate while giving Meraki far more control behind the scenes. The project also helped shape several of the customization and merchandising tools that would later become part of Vero when the theme was released publicly.
